Episode 2: Truth Doesn't Make a Noise - 09/28/04

With the assistance of Peyton (Hilarie Burton) and Brooke (Sophia Bush), Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) throws Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) a wedding reception. Although Haley's parents (Huey Lewis, Duets and Bess Armstrong, My So-Called Life) support Nathan and Haley's marriage, Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods) has a difficult time accepting it. Meanwhile, Dan's (Paul Johansson) recent heart attack causes him to try and mend his relationships with Deb and Lucas.

Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) have their first post-wedding argument when he buys her a gift rather than a much-needed car. Lucas' (Chad Michael Murray) attempt to help Dan (Paul Johansson) with rehab ends in disaster when Dan reverts to his old ways. Peyton (Hilarie Burton) tries to organize an all-ages club and is tempted to try cocaine to seal the deal.

Peyton tearfully (Hilarie Burton) confesses to the church that she recently tried cocaine and Keith (Craig Sheffer) is caught off guard when a beautiful woman (guest star Maria Menounos) comes to the shop and begins flirting with him. Meanwhile, Karen (Moira Kelly) goes on a date with Andy (guest star Kieren Huchison), her younger professor.

Andy (guest star Kieren Huchison) surprises Karen (Moira Kelly) with a dinner and Keith (Craig Sheffer) cooks for Jules (guest star Maria Menounos) on their first date. After Chris (guest star Tyler Hilton) quits his gig the night of the club opening, Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) must face her fear of performing to save the night for Peyton (Hilarie Burton). Although Mouth (guest star Lee Norris) tends to Brooke (Sophia Bush) while she is drunk, Felix sneaks in and attempts to take the credit. Meanwhile, when Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan (James Lafferty) go on a road trip to a Bobcats game, Nathan reveals he is being tested for the genetic defect that caused Dan's (Paul Johansson) heart attack and suggests Lucas do the same. After an awkward encounter with Keith (Craig Sheffer) and Jules (guest star Maria Menounos), Karen (Moira Kelly) and Andy (guest star Kieren Huchison) share an intimate night together.

In this imaginary world, Lucas would have had the wealth and stature and Nathan would have been the one to grow up on the wrong side of the tracks.
